Maghull Methodist Church
Liverpool Road North,
 L31 2HP

On Sunday 26th September 2021 Maghull Methodist Church held its final service
with Rev Neil Stubbens conducting a Service of Thanksgiving.

Although the Church is now closed The Scouts, (Mark Critchley 0151 234 9171) Food Bank (0151 933 1300  www.southsefton.foodbank.org.uk) and the Helen O'Grady Drama Academy (Rachel Powell 0151 703 6717 email: sefton@helenogrady.co.uk) will continue meeting until the end of the year

The first Church was established on the current Maghull site in 1896 although there were earlier records of Methodist meetings, in Maghull, as far back as 1778. The current, church was opened in 1965 with a further extension being added in 1994

Over the years Maghull Methodist Church has continued to provide opportunities for the neighbourhood to worship; it has also provided the buildings in which fellowship with other Christians could be enjoyed; it has catered for the needs of young people in introducing them in the relevance of Jesus Christ to the world today.

Over the years local children have come to our Sunday School, Pram Club, Play Group, Youth Club, Messy Church, Brownies, Guides, Scouts, Monday Club (for children with special needs) and underprivileged children were taken on holidays to North Wales.

Some people will fondly remember attending the drama group’s productions, socials and taking part in monthly church walks, with the church always seeking to help charities with collections of food, goods, and money.

More recently the local community has visited our Spring fairs and weekly activities: Age Concern, Jigsaw Group, Ladies Fellowship and Food Bank.

Against a great deal of difficulty, over the recent years, Maghull Methodist Church has continued to provide opportunities for the neighbourhood to worship, however with the age and decline in the numbers of the congregation it has proved impossible to provide the necessary resources to continue to manage the Church and therefore with very much sadness and regret the Church Council decided at a meeting in June 2021 to seek permission to close the Church, this being accepted by Synod.
